Over Swine Flu in a day?

Hey yesterday I woke up with a soar throat but wasnt feeling too too bad, maybe a little achy. Throughout the rest of the day I started feeling crappier and crappier, and after getting out of a movie I was watching I noticed I was getting dizzy. After getting home an hour or so later I had a cough, soar throat, extremely achy muscles and a bad headache. I checked my temperature and it was over 102. A few hours later that night I started feeling better and I was down to around 99. After getting up this morning I feel almost fine except for a slight cough, temps down to sub 98 (normal for me.)

Anyways from my symptoms it seems like I had swine flu, but from the onset of my symptoms until now where I feel fine, its only been a little over 24 hours. Is it possible to fight off the swine flu that fast? Does this happen sometimes with people, where they feel fine, but then fever and everything comes back full force after another day?

  1. From what I have heard from others, it can manifest just like you described. But you should still stay away from others unless you know for sure it wasn’t the swine flu. You can shed the virus for days afterwards, so be careful.

Swine flu is a mutated strain of the regular flu, many of the symptoms are almost identical, the only real way to know if you have h1n1 or just the influenza virus (which that in itself has 1000’s of strands) is to be tested for it. The thing to be worried about is if these symptoms do come back go see a doctor and request to be tested for other infections also, many doctors are jumping to a diagnosis of h1n1 when the symptoms of h1n1 are very similar to the symptoms of mono, which is a disease that you don’t want to let go untreated.

    Hi Kyle.

People may be infected with the flu, including 2009 H1N1 and have respiratory symptoms without a fever. Severe illnesses and deaths have occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus.

What are “emergency warning signs” that should signal anyone to seek medical care urgently?

    In children:

    • Fast breathing or trouble breathing
    • Bluish skin color
    • Not drinking enough fluids
    • Not waking up or not interacting
    • Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
    • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
    • Fever with a rash

    In adults:

    • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
    • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
    • Sudden dizziness
    • Confusion
    • Severe or persistent vomiting

There are also everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like the flu.

Take these everyday steps to protect your health:

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.*
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
    • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
    • If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.) Keep away from others as much as possible to keep from making others sick.

Other important actions that you can take are:

    • Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
    • Be prepared in case you get sick and need to stay home for a week or so; a supply of over-the-counter medicines, alcohol-based hand rubs * (for when soap and water are not available), tissues and other related items could help you to avoid the need to make trips out in public while you are sick and contagious.
